Dom Luís I Bridge
It is the most famous among bridges crossing the river Douro. Built in 1886, the bridge was designed by Théophile Seyrig - an engineer who worked with Gustave Eiffel. The large iron bridge had an upper and lower deck, both of which were opened for vehicles till 2003. Then, the main span was transformed for express tramway. A pedestrian passage on the upper deck offers spectacular views of the city. This is one of the most recognizable landmarks of Portugal.
