Arriving in Bergamo, travelers immediately face its unusual topography - absolutely flat downtown rises sharply to the stronghold of the old city of the 16th century. The contrast is even harsher because Bergamo streets are lined with neoclassical and modern buildings, while the narrow web of the old city routes preserves Renaissance and Romanesque styles. The majority of attractions is in the old town of Bergamo.
Square Vecchia

Wonderful Palazzo della Ragione (town hall) is located in the heart of the old city in Vecchia square. Its stone staircases and loggia of the 12th century with three gothic arcs (reconstructed in the mid-1500s) form the upper part of the square, adjacent to the high tower and the gate of the Commune. The lower side of the palace belongs to the period of late Renaissance.
Square Mercato delle Scarpa

Near the upper station of the funicular there is a square Mercato delle Scarpe. Narrow stone passage leads to the tower Torre di Gambit, which was built around 1100.
Rocca Museum

Museum of the 14th century include Museo Civico della Risorgimento and della Resistenza. The exhibition includes documents and exhibits about the struggle for the independence of Italy, when the city of Bergamo was released from the Austrian army by Garibaldi. Near the museum there is the Park of Remembrance with a medieval castle, which offers a 360 degree view of the city of Bergamo.
