Another attraction in Spain is a beautiful Barcelona Palace of Catalan Music, the author of which is the famous Catalan architect and politician Luis Domenech Montaner.
Construction of the palace had began in the spring of 1905 and was carried out mainly on charitable donations. Beautiful theater was opened in February 1908. For the realization of the original design of the Palace of Catalan Music architect Luis Domenech Montaner was awarded by the Barcelona City Council and received a gold medal.
Catalan Music Palace is located in the historic district of La Ribera. Its capacity is 2,200 people. Since the ceiling of the auditorium with a multicolored stained glass, the Catalan Music Palace is the only room in Europe, where there is natural daylight.
The beautiful facade of the Palace of Catalan Music harmoniously combines elements of Spanish and Arab architectures. Its upper part is decorated with a mosaic of Luis Bru, which portrayed members of the choral society Orfeo Catalan, for which the building was designed. Busts of Beethoven, Bach, Pierluigi da Palestrina and Wagner are installed above the columns of the main facade which are covered with the colorful glazed tiles.
Palace of Catalan Music Hall is decorated with many sculptures of the masters of the 20th century. Here you can see the sculpture Pegasus, the famous Ride of the Valkyries by Wagner. Above the stage there is a large organ that represents the voices of male choir, and on the stage seven Greek muses are arranged. The central part of the scene takes the Catalan flag.
A modern Palace of Catalan Music is one of the most popular attractions in Barcelona. Every year, its presentation is visited by about half a million spectators. Since 1997, the Palau de la Música Catalana is included to the UNESCO World Heritage list.
