Cruising is always connected and associated with rules, traditions, certain holidays which we accept the way they are. But have you ever wondered what certain things mean on the cruise ship? The ships are usually referred as to she for centuries already even though some of them don't have female names at all.  There is no certain theory about the origin, but people believe that most of the captains named their boats in honor of a woman the love, therefore ships  always refer to women.

As for the "X" letter on Celebrity Cruises, it actually stands for "Chandris", which in its turn comes from the Greek Cruise company to which belonged the Celebrity. And by the way in Greek alphabet, the sound ch is represented by X.

The ones who are cruising a lot are familiar with a term "Lido deck", which means the upper open deck with pools, lounge chairs and bars. The term appeared when transatlantic steamship traveling appeared.
