Scenic Jinhua Shi Park in China

Natural wetlands were formed over the centuries at the confluence of two rivers, which are located in the central-eastern Chinese province of Zhejiang.

These marshes in the heart of Jinhua Shi got the name, which means "sparrow's tail". For many years, they were underdeveloped, not yet turned into a center of cultural activities of the city with a concert hall, parks and green spaces. Project developers managed to solve the problem of inaccessibility of the place, turning it into a fragrant park.

Jinhua Shi  was turned into environmentally friendly green park planted with vegetation, terraces, footbridges and recreational. The project gave the city a new identity, becoming its most popular tourist attraction. The central part is a footbridge across the river Snake, connecting various parks along the river banks. This bridge connects the southern and northern parts of the city, covering the three parks and facilitating the lives of local residents.

Landscape Architects persuaded the city to demolish the concrete walls built along the coastal floodplains for flood protection. Instead, the architects decided «to make friends» with flooding using a strategy embankments. Terraced river embankment is covered with adapted native vegetation. In order not to disrupt the lush and dynamic ecosystem of the wetland, flooded were built hiking paths and pavilions, closed to the public during a short period of flooding.
