Its name the Cliffs of Moher have received from the eponymous old fortress called «Moher», which once stood at their most southerly point. Fortress has not been preserved to the present day, since it was destroyed in 1808. In 1835, on its place appeared O'Brien tower, which acted as the lookout.
The tower is open for visitors every day, but there is an entrance fee. For a small fee you can get on its observation deck, from where there is a great view on the entire coast of the district as a whole.
