Lake Geneva is the largest water resource in Switzerland. One of its features is a crescent-shaped form. The Northern coast stretches for 95 km and the southern coast - 72 km. The greatest depth of the lake is fixed in place between Evian and Lausanne and it is 310 meters and its width at this point is only 13 kilometers.

In the late 1960s the water pollution made it dangerous for swimming at some beaches of Lake Geneva,as the underwater visibility was close to zero. By the 1980s, extensive pollution almost devoured all the fish. Today, the pollution level is drastically reduced, and again it is safe to swim and sunbathe on the local beaches. Main activities include sailing, surfing, boating, scuba diving and swimming.
